“So, now that we’ve spoken on everything else but the real reason you brought me out to dinner, can we address that elephant in the room?” I questioned, feeling extremely relaxed after yet another glass of wine.

“I mean, the real reason I brought you to dinner was because I wanted to. I was just willing to tell you whatever for you to agree to come with me.” Kano smirked, and I rolled my eyes while shaking my head.

He was entirely too charming and had been saying all the right things from the moment we were seated. Everything about tonight was perfect and our conversation flowed continuously. The vibe of the restaurant made the night even more romantic and although I wanted to just go with the flow, I needed some answers. Him explaining the switch up that he pulled would be the only thing to quiet the doubt that rang loudly in my head.

“Kano.” I warned.

“Okay, I really don’t want to speak on this because I’m just enjoying my time with you, but since you just have to know, at this moment, let’s keep it brief.” He spoke.

“Understood. I won’t interrupt.” I nodded.

“I knew about the arrangement that our parents made, but I never expected the shit to actually happen. I figured that your people would back out or something like that. So, I was in a lil situation with a female and we were headed to something serious before you arrived. I knew that I should have ended things with her, but she made it hard. Her feelings for me were deeper than mine were for her. So, I figured that since what you and I had was just an arrangement, I could stay with her and just distance myself from you. I didn’t realize how hard that would be. I thought of you more than I thought of the woman that I was supposed to be in a relationship with. So long story short, I ended it.” The way he spoke sounded as if it was rehearsed, but I’m sure it was just because he was annoyed with the topic.

“That’s crazy. I wish you would have told me that from the beginning. You would have saved me a whole lot of sleepless nights.” I confessed.

“Sleepless nights? Cause of me?” He questioned.

“Well duh. Cause even though an arrangement is what brought us together, I still want it to…” I stopped, hating that I was taking this conversation here.

“You still want it to what?” He asked.

“I still want it to feel real. Like, if I have to sacrifice a normal relationship for this, I still want all the feels that every girl deserves. I still want the flowers and the moments, and the dates and romance and eventually the love. If this arrangement is really for a couple years like I was told, I want it to be some good years, at least.” I answered.

“I feel that. Like I said, I apologize for making this all harder than it had to be.
